Superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) mRNA is the messenger RNA transcript produced from the SOD1 gene, which encodes the enzyme superoxide dismutase 1. This enzyme plays a critical role in cellular defense against oxidative stress by catalyzing the conversion of superoxide radicals into molecular oxygen and hydrogen peroxide. Mutations or dysregulation of SOD1 mRNA are linked to several diseases, including Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and Cancer. Small molecule inhibitors targeting SOD1 have shown potential for cancer therapy.
