Suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3) is a protein that negatively regulates cytokine signaling, particularly through inhibition of the Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK-STAT) pathway. It is induced by various cytokines and acts as part of a negative feedback loop to modulate immune responses and maintain cellular homeostasis. SOCS3 plays a role in various diseases, including type 2 diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer’s disease, immune disorders, and cancer.
Inhibits JAK/STAT signaling by binding to JAKs or phosphotyrosine motifs on activated receptors, recruits E3 ubiquitin ligase complexes for targeted degradation.
