Suppressor of tumorigenicity 20 protein (ST20) is a human protein thought to function as a tumor suppressor. It may promote apoptosis of cancer cells and is associated with cellular responses to genotoxic stress such as UV-C exposure. Alternative names reflect its discovery as a suppressor gene in cervical cancer. Its precise molecular mechanisms are not fully characterized, but it has been suggested to serve in apoptotic signaling pathways, possibly regulating cysteine-type endopeptidase activators. Aberrations including gene fusions or loss-of-function mutations may contribute to tumorigenesis, especially in carcinomas such as cervical cancer.
