Suppressor of tumorigenicity protein 7 (ST7) is a transmembrane protein and a member of the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) superfamily, showing features of both endocytosis and signal transduction. The gene is located at human chromosome 7q31, a region frequently altered in a variety of cancers. ST7 functions as a tumor suppressor gene, and mutations or loss of expression have been associated with increased tumorigenicity in experimental models, especially in prostate, colon, and breast cancer. Its cytoplasmic domain interacts with other proteins involved in signaling and endocytosis, such as RACK1, MIBP, and SARA. Alternative splicing and/or transcript variants exist, but the full spectrum of its biological roles remains incompletely defined. No known small molecule or biologic drugs are currently described to specifically modulate ST7, but biomarkers such as lncRNA ST7-AS1 (the antisense RNA of ST7) have shown promise as predictors of cancer prognosis[1][2][3][4].
