Overview

The **suprachoroidal outflow pathway** is an anatomical route in the eye responsible for a proportion of aqueous humor drainage from the anterior chamber. After passing through the trabecular meshwork and uveoscleral structures, aqueous humor percolates through connective tissues of the ciliary body and into the **suprachoroidal space** (between the sclera and choroid), where it is then absorbed by scleral and choroidal blood vessels. This passive route is independent of active molecular transport and plays a greater role in intraocular pressure regulation in younger individuals but declines with age. Surgical implants and pharmacological agents aim to augment this pathway as a treatment for glaucoma by increasing fluid drainage through this space.
