Overview

The supraorbital nerve is a sensory branch of the frontal nerve, itself a division of the ophthalmic branch (V1) of the trigeminal nerve (cranial nerve V)[1][2][3][4][5]. It exits the orbit via the supraorbital foramen or notch, divides into medial and lateral branches, and supplies sensory innervation to the forehead, upper eyelid, conjunctiva, and frontal sinus mucosa[1][2][3][4][5]. The nerve is clinically significant in procedures such as nerve block for headache management, browplasty, and reconstructive surgery, where its anatomical variability poses risk for inadvertent injury[3][5]. While not a biochemical target, the supraorbital nerve is a focal point in clinical neurology/anesthesia for pain management[3][5].
