SURF6 pseudogene

A pseudogene is a genetic sequence that closely resembles a functional gene but is nonfunctional, either due to mutations that prevent transcription, translation, or production of a viable protein[1][3]. The SURF6 pseudogene is homologous to the coding gene SURF6 but does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes like this are present in many genomes as remnants of gene duplication events or retrotransposition. While a small number of pseudogenes have shown regulatory activity in rare contexts, there is no evidence that the SURF6 pseudogene has any recognized biological function, clinical biomarker status, or role in disease—nor is it a target for approved or experimental therapeutics[1][3].
