Overview

Surfactant associated 1, pseudogene (SFTA1P) is a **long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)** of pseudogene origin, highly expressed in lung tissue and implicated in diverse cancers. It shows **tumor suppressor activity in lung squamous cell carcinoma, non-small cell lung cancer, and gastric cancer**, with downregulation associated with increased proliferation, migration, invasion, and poor prognosis[1][2][3][5][6]. Mechanistically, SFTA1P regulates various cancer signaling pathways, acting as a feedback modulator of Hippo-YAP/TAZ, and influencing PI3K-AKT and cell cycle checkpoints[2][4]. SFTA1P can enhance cancer cell apoptosis and sensitivity to cisplatin via the hnRNP-U–GADD45A axis[3]. In cervical cancer, however, SFTA1P functions as an oncogene by promoting malignant phenotypes through interaction with PTBP1 and destabilization of TPM4 mRNA[7]. Its consistently cancer-associated features suggest utility as a **biomarker for prognosis and therapy response**, but not as a classic druggable protein target.

Mechanism of action

For cisplatin: SFTA1P upregulation increases apoptosis and chemosensitivity in lung squamous cell carcinoma through hnRNP-U–GADD45A pathway

Safety considerations

No direct safety concerns reported, as the molecule is not currently a drug target. Therapeutic modulation could have unpredictable effects on cell cycle or apoptosis if applied systemically.
