Surfactant-associated protein C (SP-C)

Target
SP-C
Molecular classification
Pulmonary surfactant-associated protein
01

Overview

Surfactant-associated protein C (SP-C) is a small, highly hydrophobic membrane protein crucial for lung function. Encoded by the SFTPC gene, it's unique to pulmonary surfactant and essential for normal respiratory mechanics. It promotes alveolar stability by lowering surface tension at the air-liquid interface within the lungs.
