SW480 is a widely used human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell line derived from a primary tumor of a 50-year-old male patient (Duke's type B). It is frequently used in cancer research to study epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), tumor progression, and the molecular mechanisms of colorectal cancer. The cell line is characterized by specific genetic alterations, including mutations in the KRAS (G12V), TP53 (R273H), and APC genes, which contribute to its aggressive growth and constitutive activation of the Wnt signaling pathway. While SW480 serves as a critical in vitro model for drug screening and functional genomics, it is a complex biological system rather than a single therapeutic target molecule. Consequently, drugs are tested against SW480 cells to identify effects on specific pathways or proteins within the cell, but the cell line itself is not the target.
