Molecular classification
Epithelial cell, Secretory cell, Myoepithelial cell
01

Overview

Sweat gland epithelial cells are specialized cells lining sweat glands, playing a critical role in thermoregulation, electrolyte balance, and waste excretion. These cells are organized into secretory coils and duct systems. The main cell types include clear cells, which produce the watery component of sweat; dark cells, which secrete glycoproteins; myoepithelial cells, which aid in secretion via contraction; and ductal epithelial cells, which modify sweat composition through ion reabsorption. Dysfunction can lead to various sweating disorders.
