Sweet almond oil

Molecular classification
Other (plant-derived oil; not a biological macromolecule or receptor)
01

Overview

Sweet almond oil is a pale yellow, odorless to nutty-flavored vegetable oil extracted by pressing the kernels of the sweet almond tree (Prunus amygdalus dulcis), family Rosaceae[1][4][7]. Its main components are triglycerides rich in mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid, linoleic acid), as well as vitamin E (α-tocopherol) and phytosterols[2][5][6][7]. Used primarily as an emollient, moisturizer, and carrier in cosmetics, skin care, and sometimes as food flavoring, it is valued for its antioxidant and skin conditioning properties but does not function as a molecular receptor or target in drug action or disease.
