Overview

Swelling reduction" refers to the decrease or resolution of swelling (also called edema), which is a process rather than a specific molecule or receptor. Swelling typically results from acute inflammation, where blood vessels increase in permeability, allowing fluid and immune cells to migrate into tissues[7][5]. Swelling is resolved by mechanisms that limit vascular permeability, promote clearance of fluid (e.g., via lymphatics), and enable phagocytes to remove debris[7][5]. Anti-inflammatory drugs such as NSAIDs can reduce swelling by inhibiting inflammatory mediators, but they act on broad molecular targets rather than a specific "swelling reduction" molecule or receptor[2]. Thus, "swelling reduction" cannot be considered a canonical molecular target, receptor, or protein.
