Target intelligence / Profile preview
Synaptonemal complex central element protein 1-like (SYCE1L) is a protein highly similar to Synaptonemal complex central element protein 1 (SYCE1), which is a recognized component of the central element of the synaptonemal complex, a meiosis-specific protein assembly essential for the synapsis of homologous chromosomes, crossing-over, and ensuring accurate chromosome segregation during meiosis[4]. SYCE1 itself is a structural protein critical for assembling and stabilizing the central region of the synaptonemal complex; SYCE1L is presumed to have a related, possibly redundant or tissue-specific function, although it is much less studied and specific functional details are lacking. There is no current evidence that SYCE1L is a therapeutic target, nor is it involved in classical receptor, enzyme, or transporter-mediated drug interactions. It primarily acts as a structural element during meiotic prophase in germ cells, not in somatic disease or as a druggable molecule. Note: The submitted target is problematic: the entity "SYCE1L" is often minimally characterized and may be an inferred or predicted gene based on sequence similarity to SYCE1. Most characterized work focuses on SYCE1 (without the -like suffix), with little direct characterization or experimental validation for SYCE1L in the literature as of this date. If you are interested in the central element of the synaptonemal complex as a target, SYCE1 (not SYCE1L) is the canonical, well-studied form[4]. SYCE1L as a target does not currently fit common therapeutic target classes, has no known disease or drug interactions, and is not commonly referenced in disease literature. If you intend a review of SYCE1 instead, please specify, as significantly more information is available and experimentally validated for that protein.
