Synaptonemal complex central element protein 2 pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

Synaptonemal complex central element protein 2 pseudogene (ENSG00000257994) is a non-functional DNA sequence in the human genome that is homologous to the protein-coding SYCE2 gene, a critical structural component of the synaptonemal complex central element involved in chromosome synapsis during meiosis. Pseudogenes like ENSG00000257994 do not encode functional protein and are not considered therapeutic targets. While certain pseudogenes have been implicated in regulating their parental genes, no such function has been established for this pseudogene. The protein-coding SYCE2 gene (not the pseudogene) is implicated in diseases such as infertility, but the pseudogene itself currently lacks disease role, drug interactions, or biomarker status[2][5][7][8].
