Overview

**Synaptophysin like 1 pseudogene 1 (SYPL1P1)** is a pseudogene highly homologous to the protein-coding gene SYPL1. Pseudogenes are typically non-functional genomic DNA sequences; they resemble functional genes but do not encode proteins[5]. Some pseudogenes may regulate gene expression at the RNA level, but there is no evidence that SYPL1P1 plays a direct biological or therapeutic role[2][5]. All known biological functions and disease associations pertain to the SYPL1 gene, not to this pseudogene. **Note:** Most research and databases reference "Synaptophysin like 1" (SYPL1) as the protein-coding, functionally relevant gene. SYPL1P1 should not be mistaken for SYPL1, which does have roles in cancer cell survival and has potential clinical relevance[1][4]. SYPL1P1 does not have an established functional, pathophysiological, or therapeutic role.
