Overview

Synaptotagmin 15 pseudogene (ENSG00000285257) is a non-functional genomic DNA segment derived from the synaptotagmin 15 gene. Pseudogenes arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition and, in this case, lack the ability to code for a functional protein product, distinguishing them from active members of the synaptotagmin family. Synaptotagmin 15 itself (SYT15, associated with ENSG00000204176) is a protein involved in vesicle trafficking, but the pseudogene described by ENSG00000285257 plays no direct biological or therapeutic role and is not considered a drug target. Pseudogenes are often generated by genomic duplication events followed by inactivation mutations or by reverse-transcribed mRNA integration (processed pseudogenes). While some pseudogenes may gain regulatory functions (e.g., acting as microRNA decoys), there is no published evidence that the synaptotagmin 15 pseudogene has any such role. There is no evidence directly implicating this pseudogene in disease. Functional mutations or misannotations in pseudogenes are not typically associated with disease roles unless otherwise reported. There are no safety concerns or therapeutic challenges directly associated with this pseudogene. This pseudogene is not known to be a biomarker for patient selection or efficacy monitoring. There are no drugs known or predicted to interact with this pseudogene.
