Synaptotagmin 2 pseudogene

Molecular classification
Other (pseudogene)
01

Overview

The synaptotagmin 2 pseudogene is a non-functional segment of DNA derived from the protein-coding synaptotagmin 2 (SYT2) gene. Like other pseudogenes, it shares sequence similarity with its parent gene but is incapable of producing a functional protein due to disabling mutations or loss of necessary regulatory sequences. While most pseudogenes, including this one, are considered "junk DNA," some may be transcribed at low levels and could participate in regulatory processes, such as acting as non-coding RNAs that modulate gene expression or influence chromatin states. However, there is no evidence that the synaptotagmin 2 pseudogene serves as a canonical drug target or has direct physiological or pathological roles[3][1].

Biological functions

Other (pseudogenes may have regulatory or epigenetic roles but are not known to carry out canonical biological functions)
03

Disease associations

Other (pseudogenes are rarely directly implicated in disease but may have minor or regulatory effects in some contexts)
