Synaptotagmin-9 is a calcium-binding, membrane-associated protein belonging to the synaptotagmin family, involved in Ca²⁺-dependent exocytosis of secretory vesicles in neurons and other secretory cells. It functions primarily as a calcium sensor that regulates SNARE-mediated vesicle fusion, participating in chemical synaptic transmission and vesicle trafficking. Mutations or altered function of SYT9 have been linked to certain forms of maturity-onset diabetes, and it may play a role in neurosecretory processes by controlling neurotransmitter release and hormone secretion at the cell membrane[1][3][4].
