Syndecan binding protein 2 (SDCBP2)

Target
SDCBP2
Molecular classification
Protein with PDZ domains, Amyloid-beta A4 precursor protein-binding family, PDZ superfamily, Other (not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, ion channel, or transcription factor; classified as a scaffolding/signaling adaptor protein)
01

Overview

Syndecan binding protein 2 (SDCBP2), also known as syntenin-2, is a protein encoded by the SDCBP2 gene and contains two class II PDZ domains. These domains allow SDCBP2 to facilitate protein-protein interactions, particularly by binding to the cytoplasmic C-terminus of transmembrane proteins. SDCBP2 is involved in cell signaling, organization of protein complexes, and regulation of nuclear phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2), contributing to cell division and survival. It is a scaffolding protein important for intracellular signaling complex formation. While implicated in rare disorders such as hyperekplexia and studied in the context of cell growth and survival, there are no approved drugs directly targeting SDCBP2, and its role in disease is not fully characterized
