SYNE1 antisense RNA 2 (SYNE1-AS2) is a predicted or informatically described antisense long non-coding RNA overlapping or associated with the SYNE1 gene. Antisense RNAs can modulate the expression of their corresponding sense gene through transcriptional interference, epigenetic modification, or RNA-RNA interaction. However, there is currently no direct experimental characterization, disease association, or therapeutic relevance published for SYNE1-AS2 specifically. The SYNE1 gene itself encodes a giant scaffolding protein (Nesprin 1) involved in nuclear envelope organization, and mutations in SYNE1 cause recessive cerebellar ataxias, muscular dystrophy, and other neurologic disorders.
