Synemin antisense RNA 1 (SYNM-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the strand of DNA opposite the SYNM gene locus. As a **natural antisense transcript (NAT)**, its RNA is complementary to the SYNM mRNA, potentially enabling it to regulate SYNM gene expression either through direct base-pairing interactions or by influencing chromatin and transcriptional dynamics. NATs, including SYNM-AS1, are increasingly recognized as important regulators of gene expression at multiple levels, potentially impacting chromatin structure, transcription, and translation. While many NATs play roles in disease, especially cancer and epigenetic disorders, there is no published evidence directly linking SYNM-AS1 to disease or drug interactions at this time.
