Overview

SYNJ2 intronic transcript 1 (SYNJ2-IT1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from an intronic region (mostly described as intron 7) of the Synaptojanin 2 (SYNJ2) gene[2][5]. It does not encode a functional protein, and is distinct from the protein-coding SYNJ2 isoforms. In mice, variants of this non-coding transcript show developmental stage-specific and somatic versus gametic expression during spermatogenesis, potentially contributing to the fine regulation of SYNJ2 or neighboring genes[2][5]. There are no direct reports of SYNJ2-IT1 serving as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or therapeutic target, nor is there evidence linking it to disease roles or therapeutic interventions. Its primary classification is as a lncRNA that may possess regulatory or structural RNA functions within the testis.
