Synovial Cell Proliferation

Molecular classification
Cellular Process, Cell Proliferation, Connective Tissue Cell
01

Overview

Synovial cell proliferation refers to the increase in the number of cells within the synovial membrane, particularly involving synovial lining cells (synoviocytes) and fibroblasts. Under normal conditions, proliferation rates are low, but in pathological states such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), there is a marked increase. This hyperplasia leads to thickening of the synovium and contributes to pannus formation, resulting in joint destruction. The proliferation process can be influenced by inflammatory cytokines, angiogenesis, and innate immune receptor signaling.
