Overview

The synovial macromolecular network is a specialized, three-dimensional structural system within the synovial joint, primarily composed of high-molecular-weight hyaluronan, lubricin (proteoglycan 4), and a meshwork of collagen fibrils (Source: Encyclopedia.pub, 2023). It functions as a macromolecular sieve that regulates the semipermeability of the synovial lining, controlling the exchange of solutes and nutrients between the blood and the joint cavity (Source: Musculoskeletal Key, 2021).
