Overview

SYNPO2 antisense RNA 1 is an antisense long non-coding RNA transcribed from the SYNPO2 gene locus. Like other antisense lncRNAs, it can regulate the expression of its associated sense gene through multiple mechanisms, including chromatin remodeling, recruitment of histone-modifying enzymes, and formation of RNA duplexes with sense mRNA that affect stability and translation. Antisense lncRNAs have been implicated in cancer and other diseases due to their roles in gene regulation at transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. Specific information about the biological role of SYNPO2-AS1 itself is limited, but general mechanisms for antisense lncRNAs are well-described in the literature[2][6]. There are no drugs known to target SYNPO2-AS1 directly, and it is not considered a classical therapeutic target like receptors or enzymes. This molecule is distinct from the SYNPO2 gene and protein (Synaptopodin 2), which is a cytoskeletal protein involved in actin filament assembly and has known tumor suppressor functions—SYNPO2 should not be confused with SYNPO2-AS1[1][3][5].
