Therapeutic interventions like mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy or broad-spectrum immunomodulators aim to reprogram this environment to favor tissue repair and immune resolution (Galipeau & Sensébé, 2018). Consequently, monitoring the components of this milieu is vital for assessing disease progression and the efficacy of systemic therapies.
