Overview

SYT2 antisense RNA 1 (SYT2-AS1, also known as RP11-569A11.1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the SYT2 gene. Antisense lncRNAs like SYT2-AS1 typically function at the RNA level rather than encoding proteins and have roles in the regulation of their sense (protein-coding) gene partners. These functions may include regulation of gene expression, chromatin state, or alternative splicing. There is currently no evidence that SYT2-AS1 is a therapeutic target, biomarker, or directly associated with human disease, but its biological significance may relate to the post-transcriptional or epigenetic modulation of SYT2, which is essential for synaptic vesicle exocytosis in neural tissues[5][2][6].
