Target intelligence / Profile preview

T-cell antigen CD7 (CD7)

Target
CD7
Molecular classification
Type I transmembrane glycoprotein, Immunoglobulin superfamily
01

Overview

CD7 is a transmembrane glycoprotein and a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily, primarily expressed on T cells, natural killer (NK) cells, and their precursors. It acts as a costimulatory molecule involved in T cell activation and differentiation and plays a role in immune response modulation, including apoptosis. It is a target for immunotherapies, particularly CAR-T therapies, for treating hematologic malignancies, but fratricide among CAR-T cells remains a challenge. CD8+ T cell populations can be subdivided based on surface levels of CD7, with high levels indicating naive/memory subsets and low/negative levels indicating effector populations.
