T-cell costimulatory molecule B7.1 (CD80)

Target
CD80
Molecular classification
Immunoglobulin superfamily, Type I transmembrane glycoprotein, B7 family
01

Overview

CD80 (B7.1) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily, primarily expressed on activated antigen-presenting cells (APCs). It plays a crucial role in T-cell activation by providing costimulatory signals through interaction with CD28, leading to T-cell proliferation, cytokine production, and differentiation. CD80 also interacts with CTLA4 (CD152), delivering inhibitory signals that downregulate immune responses, critical for maintaining self-tolerance. As a central regulator of adaptive immunity, CD80 is a target for immunotherapy in cancer and autoimmune diseases.
