01

Overview

T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin-domain containing 3 (TIM-3), also known as HAVCR2, is a type I transmembrane protein that functions as an immune checkpoint receptor. It is primarily expressed on various immune cells, including CD4+ T-helper type 1 (Th1) cells, CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes (Tc1), regulatory T cells (Tregs), natural killer (NK) cells, dendritic cells, monocytes/macrophages, and mast cells. TIM-3 plays a critical role in regulating both innate and adaptive immune responses. Overexpression leads to impaired anti-tumor immunity and exhaustion of T cells during chronic viral infections.
