T cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain-containing protein 4 (TIMD4)

Target
TIMD4
Molecular classification
Receptor, Type I transmembrane glycoprotein
01

Overview

T cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain-containing protein 4 (TIMD4) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein primarily expressed on antigen-presenting cells like macrophages and dendritic cells. It functions as a receptor for phosphatidylserine exposed on apoptotic cells, mediating their clearance (efferocytosis). TIMD4 also modulates adaptive immunity by interacting with TIM-1 on T cells, influencing T cell proliferation and differentiation, particularly Th2 responses. Its role in immune homeostasis makes it relevant to autoimmune disorders, allergic diseases, asthma, and cancer immunoregulation.
