The T cell receptor alpha joining 11 (TRAJ11) is a genetic segment within the TCR alpha locus that encodes one of many possible joining regions for the variable part of the alpha chain of the T cell receptor. During T cell development in the thymus, TRAJ11 may be recombined with a variable (V) segment to help create the highly diverse antigen-binding site of the TCR. This process allows T cells to recognize millions of different peptide-MHC combinations. TRAJ11 itself does not code for a functional protein but contributes to the assembly and diversity of TCRs, which are critical for adaptive immunity. It is not a druggable target, nor does it have independent biological activity or role in diseases outside its contribution to TCR diversity. TRAJ11 is often confused as a protein, receptor, or drug target, but is actually a genetic segment integral to constructing the T cell receptor alpha chain via somatic recombination.
