Overview

TRAJ20 is a joining segment located in the T cell receptor alpha (TCRα) locus on chromosome 14[7]. During thymocyte development, TRAJ20 can recombine with variable (TRAV) gene segments to generate the variable region of the TCRα chain. This recombination contributes to the vast antigen recognition diversity of T cells, essential for the adaptive immune response[4][3][1]. TRAJ segments like TRAJ20 do not encode functional proteins on their own; rather, they provide DNA sequences that are recombined to form the mature TCR genes. TRAJ20 is not a receptor, enzyme, or drug target, and its clinical significance is limited to its role in TCR gene assembly and the potential impact on the immune repertoire[7][4][1].
