Overview

TRAJ24 (T cell receptor alpha joining 24) is a genetic segment in the human TCRA locus encoding one of the joining (J) segments required for somatic recombination of the T cell receptor alpha (TCRα) chain[5]. During T cell development in the thymus, recombination between a variable (V) alpha segment and a J alpha segment, including TRAJ24, diversifies the antigen recognition site of the TCRα chain. TRAJ24 contributes to the CDR3 region of the TCR, which determines antigen specificity, but is not a receptor or protein with direct therapeutic relevance. The mature TCR complex consisting of TCRα and TCRβ chains (and associated CD3 and coreceptor molecules) is the functional surface heterodimer responsible for antigen recognition and T cell activation[1][2][4][6]. TRAJ24 is not a mature receptor, enzyme, transporter, or standalone protein—it is only functional as part of the assembled TCRα polypeptide. Summary of correctness: - TRAJ24 is a gene segment, not a molecular target or whole protein[5][1]. - The relevant drug target is the mature T cell receptor (TCR), not any individual V, D, or J segment. - This entry is not a therapeutic target by standard pharmacological or biological criteria.
