Overview

T cell receptor alpha joining 26 (TRAJ26) is a gene segment within the T cell receptor (TCR) alpha chain locus. The TCR is a crucial immune protein on T lymphocytes, responsible for antigen recognition via binding to peptides presented by MHC molecules. TRAJ26 belongs to the joining (J) region segments involved in V(D)J recombination, which, together with variable (V) and constant (C) segments, forms the unique antigen-binding domain of the TCR α chain. During T cell development, V and J segment recombination provides repertoire diversity. TRAJ26 encodes one such J segment but does not itself produce a standalone protein or function as a receptor; rather, it is a genetic element used during TCR assembly. Key clarification: While the T cell receptor α chain (and the complete TCR) can be a therapeutic/diagnostic target, TRAJ26 itself is not a protein, receptor, or enzyme target, but a germline-encoded DNA segment involved in gene assembly.

Mechanism of action

Null (no direct mechanisms for drugs; genetic recombination at this segment forms diversity in the TCR and is not manipulated by therapeutics)

03

Biological functions

Generation of antigen recognition diversityLymphocyte development (T cell maturation)Immune response (indirectly)
04

Disease associations

Other (abnormal TCR gene rearrangements may relate to lymphoid malignancy or immunodeficiency, but TRAJ26 per se is not a direct disease target)
