Overview

T cell receptor alpha joining 28 (TRAJ28) is a joining (J) gene segment of the T cell receptor (TCR) alpha locus, involved in the assembly of the variable region of the TCR alpha chain during T cell development. The TCR is a heterodimer consisting of alpha and beta (or gamma and delta) chains that recognizes antigen peptides presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules on antigen-presenting cells. TRAJ28 encodes only a short segment of the variable region and must recombine with a variable (V) segment to form a functional TCR alpha chain. This process contributes to the diversity of antigen recognition by T cells, a key aspect of adaptive immunity[1][3][4]. TRAJ28 by itself is not a receptor or drug target, but an essential component of the genomic organization enabling T cell receptor diversity through V(D)J recombination during T cell development[1][3][4].
