TRAJ34 encodes the joining region 34 of the T cell receptor alpha (TRA) locus in humans. T cell receptors are heterodimers composed of alpha and beta chains (or delta and gamma in a minor subset). The alpha chain locus is assembled during T cell development by V(D)J recombination, generating immune diversity. The TRAJ34 gene segment is one of many joining (J) segments used to assemble the variable region of the TCR alpha chain, contributing to the antigen-binding site of the receptor. Proper recombination of variable (V), joining (J), and constant (C) segments is essential for generating functional T cell receptors capable of antigen recognition in the adaptive immune response. The TRAJ34 gene segment does not encode a protein on its own, but is incorporated into TCRs expressed on T cell surfaces, which are critical for recognizing peptide antigens presented by MHC molecules and mediating immunological responses. In summary, TRAJ34 is not a standalone protein, receptor, or conventional drug target, but a genetic segment integral to generating the diversity of antigen-specific T cell receptors.
