T cell receptor alpha joining 36 (TRAJ36) is a gene-encoded segment that forms part of the T cell receptor (TCR) alpha chain in humans. The TCR is responsible for recognizing foreign antigens presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules on the surface of antigen-presenting cells. TRAJ36 encodes one of the multiple J (joining) segments used in the somatic recombination of the TCR alpha chain, providing diversity crucial for adaptive immunity. TCR loci rearrangement during T cell development allows a wide range of antigen recognition through various combinations of V (variable), J (joining), and C (constant) gene segments. TRAJ36 itself does not encode a full functional protein, but rather contributes as a recombined DNA segment to the TCR alpha variable region. There is no evidence for TRAJ36 as a direct therapeutic target, nor is it currently associated with drug interactions, biomarker status, or notable safety concerns.
