TRAJ4 encodes a joining segment of the T cell receptor alpha chain locus. It is one of many J gene segments (TRAJ) present on human chromosome 14 that contribute to the generation of diversity in the TCR alpha chain through somatic recombination. These recombination events during T cell development enable T cells to recognize a vast array of antigens presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules. TRAJ4 itself does not encode a receptor protein or have a functional role outside its genomic context[1][3][5].
