T cell receptor alpha joining 4 (TRAJ4)

Target
TRAJ4
Molecular classification
T cell receptor gene segment, T cell receptor alpha joining gene, Immunoglobulin superfamily
01

Overview

TRAJ4 encodes a joining segment of the T cell receptor alpha chain locus. It is one of many J gene segments (TRAJ) present on human chromosome 14 that contribute to the generation of diversity in the TCR alpha chain through somatic recombination. These recombination events during T cell development enable T cells to recognize a vast array of antigens presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules. TRAJ4 itself does not encode a receptor protein or have a functional role outside its genomic context[1][3][5]. It is not druggable and is not associated with disease states individually, but is essential for the normal development of T cell receptor diversity and the adaptive immune response. Summary clarification: TRAJ4 is a genetic segment required for the somatic recombination that creates diverse T cell receptors; it is not a stand-alone molecular target for drugs, nor does it function as a receptor, transporter, or enzyme on its own[3][5].
