T cell receptor alpha joining 5 (TRAJ5)

Target
TRAJ5
Molecular classification
Other (Gene segment, T cell receptor joining gene)

Overview

T cell receptor alpha joining 5 (TRAJ5) is a J (joining) gene segment within the human T cell receptor alpha locus on chromosome 14 that encodes a short stretch of amino acids incorporated into the variable region of the TCR alpha chain during V(D)J recombination in T cell development. This segment, together with others, facilitates the generation of a diverse T cell receptor repertoire necessary for adaptive immunity by enabling antigen recognition. TRAJ5 is not a discrete protein, receptor, or a traditional therapeutic drug target, but it is essential for the genetic recombination process generating functional T cell receptors.

Biological functions

Immune response (contributes to TCR diversity enabling antigen recognition)
03

Disease associations

Other (no direct standalone disease association; involved in TCR gene rearrangements that, when abnormal, may contribute to immune dysfunction or leukemia, but the segment itself is not a disease gene)
