During T cell development, V (variable) and J (joining) gene segments such as TRAJ46 are randomly recombined to generate the diverse repertoire of T cell receptors (TCRs) on the surface of T lymphocytes. These receptors recognize peptide antigens presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules on antigen-presenting cells, a fundamental process in adaptive immunity[1][4][5][7][8]. TRAJ46 is therefore essential as a germline element but is not in itself a receptor, protein, or direct drug target. TRAJ46 is a **DNA segment** (a joining region) involved in assembling the TCRα chain and is not a therapeutic target, drug, or biomarker.
