Target intelligence / Profile preview
T cell receptor alpha variable 13-1 (TRAV13-1) is a gene segment encoding one of the numerous variable (V) regions for the alpha chain of the T cell receptor (TCR), an essential component of the adaptive immune system. The TCR alpha chain is generated by somatic recombination of V (variable), J (joining), and C (constant) gene segments. TRAV13-1 contributes to antigen recognition diversity when it combines with specific J and C segments to form the TCRα chain, which pairs with a TCRβ chain to create a unique TCR heterodimer displayed on T cell surfaces. TCRs containing the TRAV13-1 segment recognize peptides bound to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules, leading to T cell activation and adaptive immune responses. While the T cell receptor as a complex is a major focus for immunotherapies (such as engineered TCR-T cells), individual V gene segments like TRAV13-1 are mainly of interest in immunological research and biomarker development for repertoire tracking and clonal analysis.
None (drugs acting at the level of individual variable gene segments are not established; mechanisms relate to T cell receptor-ligand recognition and downstream immunomodulation)
