Overview

T cell receptor alpha variable 15 (TRAV15) is a gene segment within the TCR alpha locus that encodes part of the variable domain of the TCR alpha chain. This segment participates in V(J) recombination during T cell development, contributing to the diversity and antigen specificity of αβ T cell receptors[2][3]. The TCR itself is a heterodimeric protein complex on T cells, responsible for recognizing antigenic peptides presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules and initiating T cell activation and adaptive immune responses[1][3]. TRAV15 is one of many TRAV gene segments that can be selected during recombination, ultimately determining the antigen specificity and functionality of individual T cells. The clinical roles of TRAV15 are primarily associated with its contribution to immune repertoire diversity, and it is not considered a direct therapeutic target in current medical practice[2][3].
