Overview
T cell receptor alpha variable 18 (TRAV18) encodes a V-region segment of the alpha chain of the T cell receptor (TCR), which, together with the beta chain, forms the antigen recognition site of most T cells. The TCR recognizes peptide antigens presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules on antigen-presenting cells. The variable region encoded by TRAV18 is generated via somatic recombination, providing diversity crucial to the adaptive immune response. This TCR segment is essential for antigen specificity, T cell signaling, and the downstream activation and differentiation of T cells.
