Overview

T cell receptor alpha variable 22 (TRAV22) is a variable (V) gene segment of the alpha chain locus of the T cell receptor (TCR) in humans[2][3][9]. It encodes the V region of the variable domain of the TCR alpha chain that participates in antigen recognition[1][3]. During T cell development, TRAV22 can be rearranged with joining (J) gene segments to form the complete variable region of an alpha chain[2][9]. The assembled TCR, consisting of one alpha and one beta chain, is essential for the recognition of peptide antigens presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules on the surface of antigen-presenting cells, thus mediating adaptive immune responses[2][4][5][8]. TRAV22 itself is not a therapeutic target, but it contributes to the TCR repertoire diversity[2][10]. Changes or profiling of its usage may be explored in immunological research, but there are no drugs directly targeting TRAV22, and its expression or sequence is not a validated clinical biomarker or therapeutic target.
