Overview

T cell receptor alpha variable 27 (TRAV27) is a protein segment encoded within the TCR alpha gene locus and forms part of the variable region of the T cell receptor (TCR) alpha chain[1][3][5]. As a variable (V) gene segment, TRAV27 recombines with joining (J) segments during T cell development to contribute to the vast diversity of TCRs, enabling T cells to recognize a wide range of peptide antigens presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules on antigen-presenting cells[1][2][7]. TRAV27 itself is a germline-encoded DNA segment and is not a surface receptor or standalone protein, but a building block of the TCR alpha chain variable domain[1][3]. The TCR complex is essential for T cell activation and adaptive immune response signaling, but no drugs or therapies target individual V gene segments like TRAV27[1][8]. Instead, TRAV27 is studied in immunogenetics and T cell repertoire analysis to understand antigen-specific immune responses[1].
