Overview

T cell receptor alpha variable 7 (TRAV7) encodes the variable region of the alpha chain of the T cell receptor (TCR) complex, a crucial component of the adaptive immune system[1][3][5]. The TRAV7 gene provides one of many variable (V) gene segments, which, through somatic recombination with joining (J) and constant (C) gene segments in developing T lymphocytes, forms the antigen recognition domain of the TCR alpha chain[1][5]. The TCR is present as a heterodimer (most frequently an alpha/beta pair) on T cells and is responsible for recognizing peptides bound to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules on antigen-presenting cells, thus initiating T cell activation and immune responses[1][2][4][5]. TRAV7 is one of many V segments contributing to the extraordinary diversity of T cell receptors, allowing the immune system to recognize a vast array of foreign and abnormal self-antigens[1][5]. Although critical for immune recognition, individual TRAV genes are not directly targeted by therapeutics but may be of interest in immunogenetic profiling and research on clonal expansions in diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, autoimmune disorders, and infections[5].
