T cell receptor alpha variable 8-3 (TRAV8-3) encodes one of the many variable regions (V segments) of the TCR alpha chain, a component essential for the antigen specificity of T cells. The TCR is a membrane-anchored heterodimer (usually alpha and beta chains) expressed on T lymphocytes, where it recognizes antigenic peptides presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules.
