Overview

The T cell receptor beta chain Vβ6 region is a segment of the variable region of the T cell receptor (TCR) beta chain, found specifically in T cells that use the Vβ6 gene segment. T cell receptors are heterodimeric membrane proteins generally composed of an alpha and a beta chain and are essential for the recognition of antigenic peptides presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules on the surface of antigen-presenting cells[2][4][8]. The Vβ6 variable region provides the antigen-specific recognition site, especially through its complementarity-determining regions (CDRs)[2][4]. The diversity of the Vβ gene segments, such as Vβ6, contributes to the enormous variability of the TCR repertoire and is critical for adaptive immune responses[5][8]. Therapeutics such as STAR0602 have been developed to specifically target T cells expressing Vβ6 by delivering activation signals selectively through both the TCR and the IL-2 receptor, leading to robust and targeted expansion of Vβ6-positive T cells and demonstrating promising antitumor activity in preclinical studies[6]. Given its specificity, the Vβ6 region also serves as a biomarker for certain T cell populations in immune monitoring[6]. Potential therapeutic challenges include the risks of broad immune activation and off-target effects[6].
